She

She sat on the edge,
Cigarette butt clenched in her knuckle,
She doesn't have to light it,
Just her introspection,
Made her insides blaze

The aftertaste isn't the best sundae,
It tastes like failure to her,
But she also tasted the thrill,
She felt the adrenaline course through.

Chaotic music gives her peace,
That's her, finding the storm,
Getting to the eye of it,
That was her ivory tower.

Exhilaration was what she chased after,
The thrill kept her running,
As the sandman slowly neared,
She shed a single tear.

Treadmarks, Skid lines

In this road that stretches on to eternity,
We are all, but, commuters.
Some have it good in a big car,
Others have it bad, skin against the tar.

They will judge you,
The sun will beat down on you,
You are not going to have it easy,
But then there is always company.

Some are with you from the beginning,
Others you pick up along the way,
Some are just hitch hikers,
You will know the ones that are here to stay.

I guess by the end of it,
You've seen what you wanted to see,
You've felt what you wanted to feel,
You are as alive as you will ever be.

And when you hit the breaks,
You can put on your best smile,
And declare,
This! Has indeed been the finest hour!

Justified paradox

Claustrophobia in an open ground,
Scream out loud without a sound,
Thoughts reverberate the heart,
Emotions ripping and tearing apart,
This silence is numbing,
Strong walls are crumbling,
Keep your smiling face,
The pseudo-joy is all a daze,
Bottomless pit of confusion,
The soul's bracing for the explosion.

The storm is bound to lapse,
It'll warp in itself as it contracts,
The wreckage is going to clear,
The light at the end is near,
Stay strong,
Don't be afraid to be wrong.
You're a brave Eagle,
You're a lion, strong and regal.
You're a fox, quick on the feet,
You're human, not willing to accept defeat.

Don't mind this insanely cool lion looking at you. Picture Courtesy: #Pinterest

Thunderstorm

The rumbling thunder whispers,
Making the howling cats to disperse,
The doors and windows shiver in reply,
The dogs run around, awry.

The lightning whips,
The rain drips,
A drop after the other,
Like a child following its mother.

The mosquitoes swarm in for shelter,
The mosquito bats, wave helter-skelter,
Oh by Odin's beard!
Why is a thunderstorm so feared?

Many like I,
Enjoy the chaos in the sky,
The beauty of damage,
The riot, the destruction, the ravage!
Would you want to be stuck in a thunderstorm like this?

Nope.

It was never the tiger's fault.

DISCLAIMER: I'm not being insensitive and heartless. I am not against the youth's family. I am just against the tiger being put down.

A couple of weeks back, at the top right corner of my daily newspaper, I see this photo of a youth that's in spitting distance of quite a majestic white tiger. The caption read, "youth mauled to death by a white tiger after falling into the enclosure." The whole day, I kept thinking of that boy, and I could only imagine the trauma his family went through. Later the news said that the tiger might be put down. And here are a few reasons why they shouldn't.

Firstly, it might be my lack of knowledge, but I don't get how anyone could accidentally fall into the enclosure, either the zoo was really that horribly maintained or it wasn't quite by "accident". And plus, the tiger did not jump out of it's enclosure and grab a poor passerby. The boy was in the tiger's turf.

Secondly, there are reports which say that the tiger upon encountering the boy, did nothing but look at him for 10 minutes straight.  The paralyzing terror that must have taken over his senses must be horrifying, I mean, you don't expect an actual Richard Parker to be staring right into your eyes. But those 10-15 minutes is enough time for the zoo to tranquilize the tiger and safely haul the youth out and not let the tiger maul the youth out. The zoo then says that they weren't prepared for it and that only authorized personnel can use the dart gun. What I don't get is, do they not know that they are working at a zoo? A place where wild animals are caged and ill-treated for the amusement of humans, are they not supposed to be ready for these kind of incidents?! They can't just say that they weren't "prepared"! So not only do they have no infrastructure, they also have no presence of mind or sense.

But what I don't get is, what possible justification is there for the tiger to be put down? It has the right to be provoked, when onlookers start throwing stones at it. When the animal sensed a threat, it took what he was rightfully his and ran into the safety of his enclosure. It's not like the tiger knows what is to be eaten and what isn't. He was born with animal instincts and will die with animal instincts. One cannot expect a tiger to think like a human. Funny part is, what would be the case if all the deer started protesting because tigers are their fellow species? What gives man the right to think he's superior?

Finally, I must applaud the audience who dutifully recorded this horrific incident on their smartphones to forward to all the numbers they can think of, who in turn will forward to their contacts. But I request all of you who have recieved the video to refrain from forwarding it further and preferably deleting it from your phone. The boy's family needs your empathy not your sympathy. Understand the trauma and hardship the family is going through, on top of which their son's death is a forward on WhatsApp. It's not going to be easy on them. I request you all to take that video down, and say a prayer for that family to enable them to be strong through this bad time and to keep them under His care.
Sorry if this picture disturbs you.

Monologue?

Dear kitchen appliances, doormats, aunties,

This one is for you, no, I wouldn't like anything to eat, I just want you to listen to me. Yes, I do know I have lost my complexion, it's just an extra dose of melanin that's showing on my body, don't worry it's not the end of the world. I want you to liste- no aunty, I am not studying to become a doctor or an engineer. There are other occupations in this world too. No, my parents won't start looking for a suitor in three years time, when I think of the future, leaky nappies and squeaky toys isn't what I imagine. I intend to do much more than be oppressed by my husband, I intend to have as much as voice as him. It must be unladylike, but if that's what it takes to break away from social norms, be it.

Aunty, I don't want to be you.  I do not intend to learn to cook and clean for my husband who comes back from work, tired and waiting for his tea. I do not intend to worry my hair off in the tender age of 25 about what baby food my child will like best. I do not wish to gossip in sorority parties with other people of this kind, about who spent more money on what. I had an education not to keep my diploma framed on my bedroom wall, intended for my eyes only. I had an education, a very good one for that matter because my parents realized the need to be self-sufficient. You do not have to look down upon me because I wear what I please, if I am disrespecting my religion it's my problem not yours, your pseudo-worry is as fake as the smile you plaster when I tell you that I want to be independent. You do not have to worry about my lack of religion, for I see God differently from how you do. Your condescending voice that nags about modern women loosing their hold on traditional values, do not affect me. I do not want to be just a show piece in my husband's sleek house, I do not want to be the doormat that is designed to take everyone's mess. I desire individuality, set free from these chains of obligations and expectations.

There there.. that look again, no this is not the reason why my sisters are being raped. Primitive dogs that can not keep a hold of themselves are the reason why. Well obviously, men can't be blamed, Indian society has been designed to worship a Goddess and degrade your women. Men are superior and they shall decide, women are their play things and they should very much stay that way.
